It’s 7:45 on any typical morning, 2 kids are in the kitchen, Dad is eating breakfast at the table, Mom is in the bedroom getting ready for the day. In strolls one of the kids, “Mommy, can you help me get a bowl?” Ummm … where is Daddy? Oh right there, you walked right past him to get to me to help you.
Fast forward to 9:45, snack time, let’s face it kids are forever hungry when they are at the house. Mom is working at her desk. Dad is working at his desk. “Mommy, can you help me get a snack.”
7 other times before lunch, Mommy can you fill in the blank.
With both parents at home and kids now mostly being at home, moms are getting interrupted more than ever before, especially this mom.
The saying is “Necessity is the mother of all inventions,” right? Well, necessity has hit. It is not that I want my kids to grow up any faster than they already are, but I do need them to stop and think for a moment before they come barreling in with the 10,000 streams of questions.
Mom’s Traffic Light was created. Let me tell you the first time I did this, I got two full days distraction free! They were mad that I was enforcing this. Now that I don’t have a door to my office, I have to come up with a slightly different way to enforce it, and that is coming!
Seeing that we are all about the fun, silliness and laughs here in this house I needed them to know that the silly can still happen, they just need to be a little more respectful of my time.
A friend had asked me where I got this light, and I told her that I just made it on paper. But now, you can get your own Printable PDF of “Mom’s Traffic Light” by clicking here.
I do love my kids and I love that I don’t have to share them with anyone right now. It’s just sometimes this mommy needs a minute.
